When Will UNIJOS Start Giving Admission? Updated 2025/2026 Guide

The University of Jos (UNIJOS), a prominent federal university in Plateau State, Nigeria, attracts thousands of applicants each year through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry routes. Prospective students frequently search for updates on when UNIJOS will release its admission lists for the 2025/2026 academic session. Admission processes in Nigerian universities follow guidelines set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the National Universities Commission (NUC). These processes include post-UTME screening, merit list releases, and subsequent supplementary or VC lists.

UNIJOS conducted its 2025 post-UTME/DE screening exercise online from August 18, 2025, to September 30, 2025. Only candidates who chose UNIJOS as their first choice and met departmental cut-off marks participated. After screening, admissions proceed in batches via JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). Candidates must accept offers on JAMB CAPS for them to reflect on the UNIJOS portal.

As of February 2026, UNIJOS has already released admission offers and matriculated over 8,828 fresh students (including 75 international students) for the 2025/2026 session. The university held its matriculation ceremony around early February 2026. This indicates that primary merit lists, supplementary lists, and possibly additional batches came out progressively from late 2025 into early 2026. Online registration for new students began on November 17, 2025, with returning students starting on November 24, 2025. Lectures commenced in December 2025, aligning with the approved academic calendar.

If you applied for the 2025/2026 session and have not yet received admission, several factors could explain the delay. Admissions occur in stages: first merit list, second list, supplementary for remaining slots, and sometimes VC discretion lists for specific considerations. JAMB extended deadlines for public universities in late 2025 due to policy changes and new program accreditations. UNIJOS may have finalized most admissions by matriculation time, but some candidates could still check for updates if spaces remain or appeals arise.

To check your admission status right now, follow these steps. Visit the official UNIJOS portal at portal.unijos.edu.ng. Navigate to the “Check Admission” section under undergraduate admissions. Enter your JAMB registration number accurately. The system will display your status if admitted. Alternatively, log into your JAMB CAPS profile at caps.jamb.gov.ng to accept any offer promptly—failure to accept within the stipulated time (usually four weeks) may lead to forfeiture. Always upload your O’level results on JAMB CAPS early to avoid issues.

For the latest information, monitor reliable sources regularly. Visit the official UNIJOS website at www.unijos.edu.ng for announcements. Check JAMB’s portal and trusted education platforms like myschool.ng, which track admission releases across schools. Avoid unofficial sources or paid agents claiming to expedite lists, as they often spread misinformation.

UNIJOS remains committed to transparent admissions despite occasional delays from system improvements or external factors. If you missed the main batches, consider supplementary forms if announced or prepare for the next cycle. With matriculation completed and the session underway, focus on clearance and registration if admitted. Stay updated directly from official channels to secure your spot at this respected institution.
