How Much is UAT Hostel Accommodation Fee & How to Apply [Updated 2025/2026]

University of Africa Toru-Orua (UAT) in Bayelsa State is one of Nigeria’s newest federal universities, known for its focus on agriculture, environmental sciences, management, and social sciences. Many students and parents frequently ask about the UAT hostel accommodation fee because on-campus living is usually safer, closer to lecture halls, and significantly cheaper than private rooms in Toru-Orua or Yenagoa. The university has kept hostel fees very reasonable for the 2025/2026 session. This article provides the current rates and step-by-step application process based on the latest information from the student affairs office and official portal as of December 2025.

Current Hostel Accommodation Fees at UAT

UAT charges between ₦18,000 and ₦35,000 per academic session for hostel accommodation. The exact amount depends on the hostel block and the type of room you choose. Here is the current breakdown:

  • Standard rooms (4–8 students per room, shared bathrooms and kitchen): ₦18,000–₦22,000 per session
  • Semi-executive rooms (2–4 students per room, better ventilation and fewer occupants): ₦25,000–₦30,000 per session
  • Executive rooms (2 students per room, modern fittings, air-conditioned in select blocks): ₦32,000–₦35,000 per session

These fees cover the full academic year (two semesters). Fresh students pay the same rate as returning students. The university does not split hostel payment into semesters. You must pay the full amount at once after clearance.

How to Apply for UAT Hostel Accommodation – Step by Step

The process is entirely online and strictly first-come, first-served. Spaces are limited, especially for female students in the popular blocks. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Log in to the student portal at portal.uat.edu.ng using your JAMB registration number (freshers) or matric number (returning students).
  2. Complete your course registration and pay all compulsory school fees first. Hostel application is only activated after fee clearance.
  3. Navigate to the “Hostel Allocation” or “Accommodation” section on the portal.
  4. Select your preferred hostel type (standard, semi-executive, or executive).
  5. Generate the payment invoice (RRR code) and pay the exact amount shown.
  6. You can pay at any commercial bank branch or online via Remita using a debit card.
  7. Upload the payment receipt to the portal immediately after the transaction.
  8. Wait for confirmation (usually 24–72 hours). Once approved, print your hostel allocation slip from the portal.

Bed spaces are allocated strictly according to the timestamp of payment. If you delay, you may end up in a less preferred room or miss out completely. In that case, private hostels in Toru-Orua or Yenagoa charge between ₦50,000 and ₦100,000 per year.

Additional Costs to Budget For

Hostel fee is only one part of the total cost. Plan for these additional expenses:

  • Acceptance fee (freshers only): ₦30,000–₦40,000
  • Medical screening / health insurance levy: ₦3,000–₦5,000
  • Bedding, bucket, mattress, and personal items: ₦15,000–₦25,000
  • Feeding (if you cook or buy food on campus): ₦80,000–₦130,000 per session

Total first-year estimate for a fresher who secures a semi-executive hostel: ₦150,000–₦220,000 (including school fees, hostel, acceptance, and basic living expenses).

Why Students Prefer On-Campus Accommodation at UAT

The hostels are located very close to lecture theatres, the central library, and the university clinic. Security is better than most off-campus areas. There is usually steady electricity and water supply. The university provides shuttle buses between campuses and hostels, which saves transport money every day.

If you are planning to join UAT in 2026, pay your school fees early and apply for the hostel as soon as clearance opens. Spaces disappear very quickly, especially in the executive category.
