Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) is one of the most respected tech-focused universities in Nigeria. Many students and parents always want to know the FUTA hostel accommodation fee because living on campus is usually safer, closer to lecture halls, and significantly cheaper than private hostels in Akure town. The university has kept hostel fees very affordable for the 2025/2026 session. This update is based on the latest information from the student affairs office and the official portal as of December 2025.
Current Hostel Accommodation Fees at FUTA
FUTA charges between ₦18,000 and ₦45,000 per academic session for hostel accommodation. The exact amount depends on the hostel block, the room type, and whether it is on the main campus or in one of the satellite hostels. Here is the current breakdown:
- Standard rooms (4–8 students per room, shared bathrooms and kitchen): ₦18,000–₦25,000 per session
- Semi-executive rooms (2–4 students per room, better lighting and ventilation): ₦28,000–₦35,000 per session
- Executive / VIP rooms (2 students per room, air-conditioned, private bathroom in some blocks): ₦40,000–₦45,000 per session
These fees cover the full academic year (two semesters). Fresh students pay the same rate as returning students. The university does not split hostel payment into semesters. You must pay the full amount at once after clearance.
How to Apply for FUTA Hostel Accommodation – Step by Step
The process is fully online and strictly first-come, first-served. Spaces are limited, especially for female students in the popular blocks. Follow these steps carefully:
- Log in to the student portal at portal.futa.edu.ng using your JAMB registration number (freshers) or matric number (returning students).
- Complete your course registration and pay all compulsory school fees first. The hostel application is only activated after fee clearance.
- Go to the “Hostel Management” or “Accommodation” section on the portal.
- Select your preferred hostel type (standard, semi-executive, or executive).
- Generate the payment invoice (RRR code) and pay the exact amount displayed.
- You can pay at any commercial bank branch (UBA, Zenith, GTBank, etc.) or online via Remita using a debit card.
- Upload the payment receipt to the portal immediately after the transaction.
- Wait for confirmation (usually 24–72 hours). Once approved, print your hostel allocation slip from the portal.
Bed spaces are allocated strictly according to the timestamp of payment. If you delay, you may end up in a less preferred room or miss out completely. In that case, private hostels in Akure town charge between ₦60,000 and ₦120,000 per year.
Extra Costs to Budget For
Hostel fee is only part of the total cost. Plan for these additional expenses:
- Acceptance fee (freshers only): ₦30,000–₦40,000
- Medical screening/health insurance levy: ₦3,000–₦5,000
- Bedding, bucket, mattress, and personal items: ₦15,000–₦25,000
- Feeding (if you cook or buy food on campus): ₦80,000–₦130,000 per session
Total first-year estimate for a fresher who secures a hostel: ₦150,000–₦250,000 (including school fees, hostel, acceptance, and basic living expenses).
Why Students Prefer On-Campus Accommodation at FUTA
The hostels are located very close to lecture theatres, the central library, and the university clinic. Security is better than most off-campus areas. There is usually a steady electricity and water supply, and the university provides shuttle buses between campuses and hostels. That saves transport money every day.
If you are planning to join FUTA in 2026, pay your school fees early and apply for a hostel as soon as clearance opens. Spaces disappear very quickly, especially in the executive blocks.
