How Much is FUOtuoke Hostel Accommodation Fee & How to Apply [Updated 2025/2026]

Federal University Otuoke (FUOtuoke) in Bayelsa State is one of the younger federal universities in Nigeria, but it has quickly built a reputation for quality STEM education and a calm, focused campus environment. Many students and parents always ask about the FUOtuoke hostel accommodation fee because living on campus is usually safer, more convenient, and much cheaper than renting private rooms in Otuoke town or Yenagoa. The university has kept hostel fees very affordable for the 2025/2026 session. This update is based on the latest information from the student affairs office and portal as of December 2025.

Current Hostel Accommodation Fees at FUOtuoke

FUOtuoke charges between ₦18,000 and ₦35,000 per academic session for hostel accommodation. The exact amount depends on the hostel block and the type of room you choose. Here is the clear breakdown:

  • Standard rooms (4–8 students per room, shared facilities): ₦18,000–₦22,000 per session
  • Semi-executive rooms (2–4 students per room, better ventilation and fewer occupants): ₦25,000–₦30,000 per session
  • Executive rooms (2 students per room, modern fittings, air-conditioned in some blocks): ₦32,000–₦35,000 per session

These fees cover the full academic year (two semesters). Fresh students pay the same rate as returning students. The university does not split hostel payment into semesters. You must pay the full amount at once after clearance.

How to Apply for FUOtuoke Hostel Accommodation – Step by Step

The process is entirely online and runs on a first-come, first-served basis. Spaces fill up very fast, especially for female students. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Log in to the student portal at portal.fuotuoke.edu.ng using your JAMB registration number (freshers) or matric number (returning students).
  2. Complete your course registration and pay all compulsory school fees first. Hostel application is only activated after fee clearance.
  3. Navigate to the “Hostel Application” or “Accommodation Allocation” section.
  4. Select your preferred hostel type (standard, semi-executive, or executive).
  5. Generate the payment invoice (RRR code) and pay the exact amount shown.
  6. You can pay at any commercial bank branch or online via Remita using debit card.
  7. Upload the payment receipt to the portal immediately after transaction.
  8. Wait for confirmation (usually 24–72 hours). Once approved, print your hostel allocation slip.

Bed spaces are allocated strictly according to payment timestamp. If you delay, you may end up in a lower-preference room or miss out entirely. In that case, private hostels in Otuoke town charge between ₦50,000 and ₦100,000 per year.

Extra Costs to Budget For

Hostel fee is only part of the picture. Plan for these additional expenses:

  • Acceptance fee (freshers only): ₦30,000–₦40,000
  • Medical screening / health insurance levy: ₦3,000–₦5,000
  • Bedding, bucket, and personal items: ₦10,000–₦20,000
  • Feeding (if you cook or buy food on campus): ₦80,000–₦120,000 per session

Total first-year estimate for a fresher who secures a hostel: ₦150,000–₦220,000 (including school fees, hostel, acceptance, and basic living costs).

Why Students Prefer On-Campus Accommodation at FUOtuoke

The hostels are located very close to lecture halls, the library, and the medical centre. Security is better than most off-campus areas. There is usually constant electricity and water supply, and the university runs a shuttle service between campuses and hostels. That saves transport money every day.

If you are planning to join FUOtuoke in 2026, pay your school fees early and apply for hostel as soon as clearance opens. Spaces disappear quickly.
