As is typical of schools in Nigeria and possibly worldwide, both newly admitted and current students prioritize Edo State University, (EDSU) hostel accommodation. This is because the university provides a conducive environment for students to focus on their studies effectively.
The EDSU hostel is designed to accommodate students, whether they are from the host state or other parts of the country.
Understanding the annual increase in the number of applicants since its establishment, the hostel was constructed to a reasonable size, capable of housing a significant number of the students admitted each year.
However, despite the relatively large size of the hostel, it cannot fully accommodate the growing number of admitted and continuing students. Some students might miss out on hostel spaces, not because of the hostel’s capacity but often due to delays in applying at the start of the hostel application process.
Thankfully, students, whether newly admitted or continuing, have the opportunity to apply for EDSU hostel accommodation. However, some students, particularly those in 300-level, may be denied access to the hostel. This is because students at this stage are typically engaged in Industrial Training (I.T.) or Teaching Practice (T.P.), depending on their course of study.
These activities, which are closer to the graduation stage, allow students to gain practical knowledge and experience in their field. Students at this stage usually select facilities or organizations relevant to their course of study and submit these choices to their assigned departmental supervisors for review and approval.
EDSU hostel accommodation provides a supportive environment that helps students focus on their studies and explore their academic interests. The structured nature of hostel life enables dedicated students to excel academically.
Daily routines, reduced family interruptions, and a focused environment are some of the factors that enhance the academic performance of students living in the EDSU hostel.

Why Students Priotize Hostel Living?
Academic records indicate that students who perform exceptionally well, both in Nigeria and globally, often reside in school hostels. These students make the most of their time on campus to focus on their studies.
While parents or guardians may choose EDSU hostel accommodation for their children, they should also be mindful of the influences their children might encounter. The university’s educational environment exposes students to a mix of positive and negative influences, which can have significant effects on their behavior.
EDSU Hostel Accommodation Fee
The current EDSU hostel fee is affordable, especially for low-income students. It is even cheaper compared to other universities in the country due to EDSU’s status as a federally owned institution.
Typically, state-owned and privately owned universities tend to have higher hostel fees than federal institutions. While the affordability is a factor, parents and students should prioritize the quality, reputation, and competency of the education offered.
Currently, the EDSU hostel fee is based on categories of the varsity’s hotels;
