Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State has become a reliable choice for students in Northern Nigeria who want quality education without the intense competition of older federal universities. Established in 2011, FUD now offers 47 fully NUC-accredited undergraduate programmes across eight faculties. The university also runs postgraduate courses in most of the same areas. This updated list reflects the official 2025/2026 academic session offerings from the university portal and NUC records as of December 2025. No major new programmes were added this year, but several faculties have strengthened their curriculum with more practical components.
FUD keeps fees affordable for a federal university. Undergraduate charges range from ₦45,000 to ₦75,000 per session depending on the programme and whether you are an indigene of Jigawa State. Postgraduate fees start at ₦80,000 and go up to ₦150,000 per session. The institution also provides bursaries and work-study opportunities for students who demonstrate financial need or strong academic performance.

Admission Requirements for 2026
You need a minimum JAMB UTME score of 140 to be eligible for screening. Competitive courses such as Medicine and Surgery, Computer Science, and Accounting usually require 200 or higher. You must have five O’Level credits in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings. Direct entry admission is available for candidates with ND, NCE, or IJMB qualifications. Post-UTME screening is compulsory for all applicants. The university conducts the screening in two batches, typically July/August and September/October.
Why FUD Remains a Strong Choice in 2026
FUD is still relatively small compared to older federal universities, which means smaller class sizes, easier access to lecturers, and less competition for practical slots and hostel spaces. The university has modern laboratories, functional farms, and active industrial training linkages with local government agencies and private firms in Kano, Kano, and Jigawa. Graduates often secure employment quickly in teaching, banking, agriculture, and state civil service. The calm environment in Dutse also helps students stay focused on their studies.
If you are looking for a federal university that is not overcrowded, has manageable fees, and emphasises science, agriculture, education, and management, FUD is worth serious consideration. The admission process is transparent, and spaces are still available for most programmes in 2026.
