How Much is PAAU Hostel Accommodation Fee & How to Apply [Updated 2025/2026]

Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), formerly Kogi State University Anyigba, is one of the most affordable state universities in Nigeria. Many students and parents always ask about the PAAU hostel accommodation fee because on-campus living is usually safer, closer to lecture halls, and cheaper than private hostels in Anyigba town. The good news is that the university has kept hostel fees very reasonable for the 2025/2026 session. Here is the current breakdown based on the latest information from the student affairs office and portal (as of December 2025).

Current Hostel Accommodation Fees at PAAU

The university charges between ₦18,000 and ₦35,000 per academic session for hostel accommodation. The exact amount depends on the type of room and the hostel block you choose. Here is the clear list:

  • Male Hostel – Standard rooms (4–8 students per room): ₦18,000–₦22,000 per session
  • Female Hostel – Standard rooms (4–8 students per room): ₦20,000–₦25,000 per session
  • Executive rooms (2–4 students per room, better facilities, usually in newer blocks): ₦30,000–₦35,000 per session

These fees cover the full academic year (two semesters). Fresh students pay the same rate as returning students, but everyone must complete clearance and pay all mandatory school fees before applying for a bed space. Hostel spaces are limited, especially for female students, so early application is very important.

How to Apply for PAAU Hostel Accommodation – Step by Step

The process is simple and completely online. Follow these steps carefully to secure a bed space:

  1. Log in to the student portal at portal.paau.edu.ng using your JAMB registration number (for freshers) or matric number (for returning students).
  2. Complete your course registration and pay all compulsory school fees first. You cannot apply for hostel until fee clearance is approved.
  3. Go to the “Hostel Allocation” or “Accommodation” section in the portal.
  4. Choose your preferred hostel type (standard or executive) and generate the payment invoice (RRR code).
  5. Pay the exact amount shown through any commercial bank or online via Remita (debit card option available; small transaction fee applies).
  6. Upload the payment receipt to the portal immediately after payment.
  7. Wait for confirmation (usually 24–72 hours). Once approved, print your hostel allocation slip.

Bed spaces are allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. The earlier you pay your school fees and apply for hostel, the better your chances of getting a good room. If you miss the on-campus allocation, private hostels in Anyigba town charge between ₦40,000 and ₦80,000 per year.

Extra Costs to Budget For

Hostel fee is not the only expense. Plan for these additional items:

  • Acceptance fee (freshers only): ₦30,000–₦40,000
  • Medical/health insurance levy: ₦2,000–₦5,000
  • Bedding and personal items: ₦10,000–₦20,000
  • Feeding (if you cook or buy food in school): ₦80,000–₦120,000 per session

Total first-year cost for a fresher who gets a hostel: approximately ₦150,000–₦220,000 (including school fees, hostel, acceptance, and basic living expenses).

Why Students Prefer On-Campus Accommodation at PAAU

The hostels are located very close to lecture halls, the library, and the medical centre. Security is better than most off-campus areas, and there is usually constant electricity and water supply. The university also runs a shuttle service between campuses and hostels, which saves transport money every day.

If you are planning to join PAAU in 2026, pay your school fees early and apply for hostel as soon as clearance opens. Spaces fill up very fast, especially for female students.
